Dear Parents/Carers, We are nearly at the end of a very busy Spring term. It was lovely to see lots of Parents visiting school for the Mothers Day Gallery organised by the PTFA. Coffee and cakes were served and they were some marvellous Mothers Day Portraits. Parents Evening was also well attended as were the writing workshops where parents could share writing experiences with their children. There were some fantastic, creative outfits for World Book Day. We have also had a Mad Scientist visiting us for an Assembly. This kick started our Science week which culminated in our Science exhibition where some of the weeks work was displayed. Many thanks to Mrs Worrall for organising this. Children from Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 had a visit from Welly Bobs Mobile Petting Zoo and got to see a variety of animals on board of the Welly Bob’s bus. School have had a Chinese activities workshop in each class over the last few weeks making and creating various things. The children have thoroughly enjoyed this. Please remember to return the St Joseph’s Penny boxes back to school after the Easter holidays. These donations help the homeless and vulnerable families in local areas. We are also doing a Bunny Hop for Pendleside Hospice on Tuesday. Please ensure all Sponsorships are in for the event so children can get their Bunny ears. Many thanks to the wonderful Mr Cairns and also to Mrs Hallett. They have practised with the choir at weekends and evenings. All their hard work paid off as they sang at the Last Choir Standing last Thursday at Colne Municipal Hall. They won the Award for Artistic Interpretation and also came third place in the competition. Congratulations, we are all very proud of the children. Bridget Parkinson Headteacher Headteacher Mrs B. Please can all kits be labelled and returned after the Easter holidays. Sporting kit provided by school As a school we have a lot of fixtures to fulfil. Please can all kit provided by school be returned as soon as possible after the event. Sporting morning clubs A new timetable is to be sent on Monday 1st April and the first session will be on Tuesday 16th April, after our Easter break. All morning clubs are fun and every child is welcome to attend. Year 5/6 boys football This year our boys team reached the Hartley Cup Semi Final. Unfortunately, we played against a very good Worsthorne side and lost the semi final. All the boys in the team performed superbly well to get this far in the tournament and they should be proud. Tag Rugby Over 20 children from Year 5 and 6 have taken part in tag rugby competitions in February and March. In the Burnley tournament we took a team to Burnley Rugby Club and managed to finish second. We scored lots of tries and performed extremely well against some very good teams. Netball Under Mrs. Grimshaw’s guidance our netball season is up and running. Seven girls from our Year 5 class took part in a friendly competition and enjoyed getting used to the rules. Our Year 6 team played their first friendly of the year and came out victorious. Thankyou to everyone who came to the gallery and bake sale we raised £182!
