Saplings

Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Saviour, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:5

We are The Saplings

Staff - Mrs Graham Class Teacher and Miss Hughes TA.

We teach in a classroom known as the ‘Potting Shed – a small sensory classroom’.  This provides 'Open Provision' for children facing a range of challenges in a mainstream classroom.  Currently, we teach children from Year 3 to Year 6, and they are known as ‘The Saplings’.  Our aim is for children to become inspired by their experiences, motivated by their environment and fully engaged in their learning.  Ultimately, we strive for them to be enthusiastic, adaptable and empowered to learn independently.

In RE, we will be studying Pentecost.  We will explore the ways we live our lives and the way we treat each other through our words and actions.  As Christians, we believe the Spirit of God is active in each of us, and we will discover ways that will enable us to serve others.

In English, we will be completing our very own suspense story based on the text 'The Wolf in the Wall' by Neil Gaiman.  We will then learn about Emperor Penguins in order to write a non-chronological report.

We read every day, and use 'Reading Plus' (an online reading programme) plus a range of 'Vipers' which are text-based reading comprehensions.  Our current class reader is ‘A Long Walk to Water’ which links to PSHE. We also follow the WhyTry Programme which supports motivation, resilience and promotes positive relationships.

We follow the Come and See and Ten Ten Programmes for RE and learn how we are created and loved by God, created to love others and created to live in the community.  We keep active through outdoor learning and PE.
